John Kerry Has Two Black Eyes

John Kerry Has Two Black Eyes - U.S. Senator John Kerry sported two black eyes during a ceremony at the White House today - after breaking his nose playing ice hockey. The Massachusetts Democrat, 68, was awaiting President Barack Obama's salute to the NHL's Boston Bruins for their 2011 Stanley Cup championship when cameras snapped him with the shiners. Kerry's office said he sustained the injury when he was hit in the face with a hockey stick during a game with friends and family over the holidays. His spokesman, Whitney Smith, confirmed the injury to the Boston Globe. Kerry has apparently been playing ice hockey for decades, and regularly laces up for the Congressional Hockey Challenge - a charity match which benefits Washington's Fort Dupoint Hockey Club. According to the organisation's website, Senator Kerry plays the forward and right wing positions. President Barack Obama meanwhile saluted Kerry's favourite team - NHL's Boston Bruins for their 2011 Stanley Cup championship - after the Senator greeted the room with handshakes and smiles despite being black and blue. The Bruins won their first Stanley Cup title in 39 years last June after a bruising seven-game final series against the Vancouver Canucks. It was the latest in a string of Boston sports championships, including the Celtics in 2008, the Red Sox in 2007 and the New England Patriots in 2005. The Patriots play in next month's Super Bowl.
